Summer Tour for Incoming Kindergartners

Dear Parents of Incoming Kindergarten Students,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the summer weather and spending quality time with your family.  To all the parents and guardians with their first child entering kindergarten this year, let me formally welcome you to the Freeport Area School District and to South Buffalo Elementary School!  I am sure you are excited to prepare your child for their first school experience.  I can assure you that the staff and I are equally excited to share in this experience with you.   At this point, you have registered your child for kindergarten, participated in our DIAL screenings, and are eagerly looking forward to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

As a staff, we feel it is important to provide an opportunity for parents and incoming kindergarten students to tour the building prior to the start of school, and be introduced to some of the exciting activities that are part of the kindergarten experience.  It is our hope that this experience will ease some anxieties that you and/or your child may have about kindergarten, as well as introduce you to our staff.  Please join us for a Kindergarten Summer Tour at South Buffalo Elementary on Thursday, August 8th at 6:30 PM.  Parents and kindergarten students will have the opportunity to partake in the following activities:

  • Welcome and introduction by Mr. Lesko
  • School Tour
  • Bus Ride
  • Story Activity
  • Craft Activity
  • Question and Answer Session

Upon arrival, students will be placed in groups to rotate through the various activities.  Please note that these groups will not indicate classroom or teacher assignment for the upcoming school year, as those assignments have yet to be determined.  To conclude the evening, we will briefly discuss the next kindergarten event, orientation, which will occur the first day of school.  A separate mailing will be sent regarding the specifics of kindergarten orientation.

We hope to see you on August 8th!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey S. Lesko

Principal
