2017-18                                                                        Materials for Class: 3-ring binder

Grading

Warm-Up: There will be a daily warm-up given each day when you enter the classroom. It is designed to engage you in that day’s lesson and will involve problems with previous knowledge or skills, a preview to that day’s lesson, or an activity and is worth two points each day. You are expected to enter the classroom quietly and begin working on your warm-up. You may use your notes, text book, or your class partner. I also use the warm-up points as your class participation grade. Your behavior and class involvement can be a reflection of this grade.

Homework: Homework will be assigned almost daily. Any assignment made will be checked in class the next day and are worth two points each. When you enter class please have your homework out on your desk while working on your warm-up. At this time I will be going around the room checking your homework for completion. If your homework is not completed you can turn homework in 1 day late for 1 point. After 1 day no points will be awarded. It is the student’s responsibility for any make up work.

Classwork: I label this section as classwork because most of this work will begin in class, however, you may have to complete these assignments at home. Classwork assignments are collected and checked for correctness. The points will vary.

Tests/Quizzes: Quizzes will be given once per week and will be worth approximately 10-25 points. Tests will be given at the end of each unit and will be worth approximately 50 points. There will be on average 2-3 tests per quarter.  Tests (not quizzes) will be allowed to be re-taken once before the next test. However, the maximum score will be 80% of the possible.

Notebooks: A 3-ring binder is required for you to keep all of your class materials in. Your notebook is required to have two sections, notes and homework. Your notes and homework should be in chronological order so they are easy to find. If you are absent at all during the year use the “what you missed board”, or another student to find any notes or assignments from class. There will be two notebook checks per nine weeks, worth ten points each.

Your final grade each quarter will be based on a points system. Your final grade will be based on the school’s grading policy.

Classroom Rules and Procedures: Each day you are expected to come into the room and begin working on your warm-up. During this time your homework should be out on your desk so I can quickly check it. During the lesson you should be writing down the notes for your notebook, and keep your summary of that day with your notes. The classroom rules that I use I call the Four R’s. Ready, Raise your hand, Responsible, and Respectful.

Consequences: The first consequence for inappropriate classroom behavior will be a loss of class participation points, then contacting the parent/guardian, and finally a discipline referral to the office.

I am really looking forward to working with you all this year. I consider myself very lucky to work with all of you and I know that each and every one of you can be successful with hard work and determination.  Just remember this, “Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can, there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.”
