Class Activities/Projects

Classwork/Homework:  Students will have various worksheets, study guides, and writing assignments to complete during class throughout the school year.  Most of the student’s reading work will be completed during class, however there may be days he/she will have to finish the assignment for homework.  Completed classwork/homework will be given points.  For late classwork/homework, 50% of the grade will be deducted and will only be accepted until the end of the novel/topic that the work was assigned.

Vocabulary:  For each novel or short story the student works on during class, there will be a list of vocabulary to learn.  They are expected to know this vocabulary for short quizzes at the end of each section or story.  Students will have plenty of notice before their vocabulary quizzes.  They will have practice using the words during class time as well.

Projects:  Throughout the school year, the students will be completing several different projects, some are listed below, and others will be given to the students in class.  The students will be given at least two weeks notice before the due date.  For every day a project is late, 10% will be taken off of the grade

A to Z Novel Project:  Each student is required to read novels outside of the classroom in addition to the novels read in class.  The students will complete the A to Z Novel Project activities throughout the school year.  Additional information about the project can be found on Schoology.

Journal Entries: Each nine weeks I will post journal entry questions on the classroom website and Schoology.  At least four (4) questions must be answered per nine weeks. The students are able to choose what questions each wants to answer.  To answer the questions, use at least five (5) sentences with correct grammar and punctuation. The journal entries must be typed and submitted using Schoology.  I will give two (2) bonus points for each question answered after the assigned questions.  No more than ten (10) bonus points will be given per nine weeks for Journal Entries.

Bell Ringers:  Bell Ringers will be completed at the beginning of each class period.  Each day of the week will focus on a different topic.  Students will be given a check or a minus for each day, and scores will be added at the end of each nine weeks.

Assessment:  There will be several ways the students will be assessed for reading class during the year.  Classwork, quizzes, tests, projects, homework, participation, and others will be part of the grade.
