Freeport Area teachers recently visited several local employers as part of the state's Teacher in the Workplace Program, which allows teachers to interact directly with industry and business leaders to learn about industry trends, needs and opportunities.
The purpose of the Teacher in the Workplace program is to connect classroom learning with business practices of our student's future employers. That first-hand experience and knowledge can then be used to enhance classroom instruction, student learning, and career readiness to helping students gain the education and job skills they and their employers need to succeed in a global economy.
Over the course of a few weeks in June, nine staff members from the Middle School and the High School traveled around the Pittsburgh area to spend time at various locations to learn more about employability skills. The teachers were able to visit and get hands-on experience at Pittsburgh Technical College, Penn United Technologies, Allegheny Valley Hospital, Citizens School of Nursing, and Bergad Specialty Foams.
