Mark Ortego has been a music educator in the Freeport Area District since 1999. Mr. Ortego also worked in Johnson City School District, Johnson City, New York, North Catholic High School, Pittsburgh, PA & the Pittsburgh Public School District. Mr. Ortego is a 1994 graduate from Dusquesne University and served in the U.S. Army as am Army Bandsman.

4th Grade Elementary Band - Students in band recieve a 20 minute lesson once every 6 days. The first several months they learn to assemble their instrument, hold their instrument and learn their five basic notes. During the second semester the students learn to play a few songs from their method book. Students are expected to practice at least three times between lessons 15 - 20 minutes each time. They should practice what they had learned in their previous lesson, it will be marked in their books. The students will have a concert Thursday May 17th 7:00 p.m. at Freeport Middle School auditorium with a dress rehearsal Monday May 14th 6:30 - 8:00 at the Middle School. This is for both Buffalo & South Buffalo students as they are performing together.

 

5th Grade Elementary Band - Students in band recieve a 40 minute lesson once every 6 days. The first several months they will review their five basic notes and learn to read and perform more complex rhythms. . During the second semester the students learn to play song selections for their spring concert. Students are expected to practice at least three times between lessons 15 - 20 minutes each time. They should practice what they had learned in their previous lesson, it will be marked in their books & concert music. The students will have a concert Thursday May 17th 7:00 p.m. at Freeport Middle School auditorium with a dress rehearsal Monday May 14th 6:30 - 8:00 at the Middle School. This is for both Buffalo & South Buffalo students as they are performing together.
