Course Overview:

We are excited to be using our new textbook series, Avancemos, with accompanying supplemental materials including online activities.  All Spanish levels II-IV will begin with review in order to make sure everyone is confident with the material.

Available Hours:

  • Prep 6-10

Materials:

  • Textbook (kept in classroom) A textbook may be checkout if needed.
  • folder/binder : My recommendation is a 3-ring binder that can be organized by chapter
  • Paper, writing utensil

Grading:

Assessment will include all four skill areas (speaking, writing, listening and reading) will be evaluated throughout the course.

  • Do not throw away any graded assignments.  In the case of a grading error or question you must be able to show me your graded assignment so I can make and changes if necessary.  If you do not have the assignment the grade will remain unchanged.
  • If a student does not have an excused absence and misses any graded assignment, he/she will receive a “0” per Freeport policy.
  • Please do your best to be here on the assigned test/quiz day.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-up tests and/or quizzes.  If the student does not make up the required work within the time frame as stated in Freeport’s policy it will be recorded as a “0”.  Make-up tests and quizzes may not be the same as the test given on the original day.  If there is a listening section on the original exam, the make-up may include a listening activity from the CD or there will be an alternate activity.
  • Students will not be permitted to retake quizzes and/or tests.
  • If a student is caught cheating he or she will receive a “0” on the assignment.  If a student is copying homework both that student and the one providing the homework will receive a “0” on the assignment.
  • Homework is due at the beginning of the class.  I will not accept late homework even for partial credit unless it is due to an excused absence.

*******Participation: *******************************************************************************************************

Accuracy is NOT graded.  Effort and attention are what count!

Student participation will be graded based on 10% of the total points in that quarter.  Example: if the total points in Q1 is 340, participation will be an additional 34 points and Q1 will end with 374 total points.  Factors that will be considered in this grade: volunteerism, effort, class preparation, attentiveness, attendance and overall attitude.  Participation is not recorded until the end of the 9 weeks.  **********************************************************************************************************************************

Bonus: Occasionally there may be a bonus assignment available to all students.  Bonus will not be assigned individually. If there are bonus questions on a quiz or test they will not be on a make-up test.

Las Reglas (Rules):

  • Food and Drinks in the class:

Students can have drinks in a plastic bottle with a lid.  No glass, cans, or other open containers are permitted.  Snacks are not permitted unless it is a fiesta day.  If you have food or a container not permitted you will be asked to put it away/throw it out.

  • Dress Code:

Students in violation of the Freeport dress code policy will be given the opportunity to change clothes.  If the student does not have a change of clothes he or she will be sent to the office.  This applies to ALL class periods – even if you have had it on the whole day!

  • Cellphones/Smart watches, etc.:

Students are not permitted to use cellphones during class unless specifically stated.  If you need to text or call a parent please ask before using your phone.  If necessary I will send you to the office to use that phone. Occasionally, you will be allowed to use phones for activities such as Kahoot, Quizlet, or research. However, it is not necessary for you to have one.  I will have other resources available. On quiz or test days, students will be required to remove smart watches and put phones away in the storage shelves.

If your phone goes off during class or you are using it without permission:

  • 1st time – it will be placed in the basket until the end of the class
  • 2nd time – referral to office
  • Subsequent times – referral to office, parent notification, and cellphone will be placed in basket at the beginning of class for the remainder of the year
