Fourth Grade ELA Important Notes:

We use the HMH Journey's reading series for language arts which is alligned with the Common Core standards. ELA will be taught on a six day cycle. We will begin a new lesson/story on every Day 1. Spelling tests will be on Day 5 and grammar skills and reading tests will always be on Day 6. If there is ever a change in the testing schedule, students will be made aware of it in advance. In reading, the students will be assessed on vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, vocabulary strategies, and comprehension strategies. A study sheet will be sent home at the beginning of each six day rotation to help the students prepare for assessments.

The textbook and Reader’s Notebook are also available online. You may access the site through Clever. Once you access the site, click on "My Library" to see the books.

We will also be reading a few novels throughout the year as well.

Accelerated Reader is mandatory and a part of their reading grade. Students must earn 12 points each nine week period and 48 points for the year. Incentives and rewards will be provided as well.
