The purpose of Applied English 11 is to familiarize students with American Literature from the Puritan/Colonial Period up to the present. We will enhance our readings with discussions of the political, social, personal and historical events that make up each time period, so that students may fully grasp the significance of what we read.

We will use the text Elements of Literature: Essentials of American Literature:  published by Holt Rhinehart Winston (as well as supplemental materials). Novels covered will include: Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby and A Raisin in the Sun.
