South Buffalo Township is 28 square miles and located in western Armstrong County. It is home to 21% of the school district's residents.

According to the U.S. census of 2010, there were 2,636 residents, 1,007 households, and 783 families residing in the township. The population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 19, 12.5% from 20-34, 21.7% from 34-49, 25.5% from 50 to 64, and 15.7% over the age of 65. The median age was 44.3 years.

According to the 2000 census, the median income for a household in the township was $42,222, and the median income for a family was $46,389. The per capita income for the township was $18,106.
