In cases of inclement weather or other emergencies, it may be necessary to delay the start of school, dismiss early or cancel school. In those instances, school district officials will make every effort to have closing and delay announcements made on the school district website main page and local media outlets.
Decisions for school closures or delays are made in the evenings or early morning hours. Please be aware that the decision you may first hear (for example a two-hour delay) can quickly change based on dramatic changes in weather conditions. Please stay tuned to local media outlets for changes if weather conditions are questionable prior to sending your child to the bus stop.
In order to keep district telephone lines open for emergency use, PLEASE do not call the school to obtain school closure and delay information. Also, parents are urged to provide each child with training so he or she will know where to go if school is dismissed early in an emergency. There may be times when school could possibly be dismissed on very short notice, so it is suggested that your child be trained and prepared on how to cope in these circumstances.
Non-Public and Private Schools
When the District is closed, delayed, or dismissed early for inclement weather or other emergencies, all school transportation provided to non-public and private students follows the school district’s schedule. Transportation will not be provided to non-public and private school students serviced by Freeport Area School District busing when the school district is closed for inclement weather or other emergencies, even if the non-public or private school is open for the day. When the school district is on a delay or dismisses early, all non-public and private school buses follow the school district’s delay or dismissal schedule.
Extracurricular Activities
When school is closed for inclement weather or other emergencies, school sponsored activities and events are cancelled (i.e., practices, events, etc.). In the event of a school delay, all morning activities and events are canceled and during an early dismissal all evening activities and events are canceled. Any changes to this procedure will be communicated through coaches and advisers.
