Ian Magness was elected to the position of Superintendent of the Freeport Area School District by the District's Board of School Directors in September 2015 and assumed the position in October 2015. Mr. Magness holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Westminster College, with Minors in Political Science and Secondary Education; and a Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of the Letter of Eligibility program at Westminster College. He holds certifications as a secondary Social Studies teacher, K-12 Principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Intermediate Unit Directorship, and a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility.
Mr. Magness brings to Freeport a wealth of administrative experience. After beginning his teaching career in Houston, Texas, Mr. Magness taught High School Social Studies at Franklin Regional Senior High School prior to becoming an administrator. Mr. Magness has been an Elementary, Middle School, and High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent.
He and his wife, Becky, and their two children, Mackenzie and Eli, live in Apollo, Pennsylvania.
