South Buffalo Elementary School is located on 16 acres in a rural area of Freeport, South Buffalo Township. Good access is available to the school from a main artery and the parking ares are well developed and paved. The one story building was built in 1954 with an addition in 1962. An extensive renovation and expansion project was completed in 2007. The school enrolls about 350 students in grades 1 through 6.
The instructional program is progressive in nature, with an extensive computer technology component in the curriculum for grades K-6. Art, music, library, and physical education services are furnished by special personnel. A reading improvement program provides specialized help through Title I funds to qualifying students. Libraries and health rooms are located in each building. Nursing services are provided to all the elementary schools. The services of a guidance counselor are available. An instrumental music program for grades 4-6, and chorus for grades 5-6 is offered. Children who have special needs are serviced in a Mixed Category Resource Room.
